1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using The Human Chain Project ("App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.
The App is operated by Gamikaze Scheidegger, a registered business in Switzerland (CHE-467.312.860).
2. Description of Service
The Human Chain Project lets you pick a flag and suggesting a representation (e.g. male or female) and receive a unique, sequential position in a global chain. You can view your spot, browse other positions with pagination (including "My spot" and "Newest"), and generate a branded screenshot of your position to share externally.
The App is a paid download (one-time purchase of USD 1 via the app store). There are no subscriptions or in-app purchases.
Chain metadata is stored in Firebase (Firestore). Clients can read chain data; writes such as joining the chain or deleting data are performed via Cloud Functions to keep numbering consistent.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the App. If you are under 18, you represent that you have your parent's or guardian's permission to use the App and that they have read and agree to these Terms on your behalf.
4. Accounts and Authentication
- The App creates an anonymous account automatically via Firebase Authentication, allowing use of the App without providing personal identifiers.
- Optionally, you may create and link an account using an email address and password via Firebase Authentication to securely save and restore your chain position across devices.
- The email address is used solely for account authentication and recovery purposes and is not used for marketing or advertising.
- Keep your device and account credentials secure. If you lose access to an anonymous account without linking it to an email address, a new anonymous user may be created and may receive a new position in the chain.
- Only one active position is allowed per user. Do not attempt to create or automate multiple accounts to manipulate chain positions.
5. Chain Participation
- When you join, a unique sequential position is assigned atomically. Positions are not reused to preserve ordering.
- You can change your flag or representation without changing your position.
- If you request data deletion, your position is marked as deleted and reserved (status "deleted"); it is not reassigned to other users.
- Browsing the chain shows other participants' flags, representations, and positions. Your own flag and position may be visible to others within the chain.
- Sharing a screenshot explicitly publishes your position and chosen flag on the platforms you share to.
6. User Content and Sharing
The App can generate branded screenshots of your position. By sharing them externally, you choose to disclose your position and flag. You are responsible for any additional text, images, or edits you add before sharing and must have the rights to that content.
7. Acceptable Use
You agree NOT to use the App to:
- Interfere with, reverse engineer, or bypass security, counters, or Cloud Functions that manage the chain
- Attempt to write directly to Firestore or otherwise manipulate positions outside the provided App flows
- Automate sign-ups or pagination to scrape data or gain multiple positions
- Post, share, or depict hateful, illegal, or otherwise objectionable content in connection with the App
- Violate any applicable laws or regulations
We may terminate access for violations of these rules.
8. Data Deletion and Reactivation
- You can request deletion in Settings. This triggers a soft delete (status "deleted"), removes your flag, reduces the active count, and deletes your Firebase Authentication account.
- Your previous position remains reserved and marked as deleted; it is not reassigned to others.
- After deletion you may create a new account and join again, which will assign a new position.
- Uninstalling the App alone does not delete your data; you must use the in-app delete option.
9. Intellectual Property
Our Content
The Human Chain Project App, including its design, logos, and underlying technology, is owned by Gamikaze Scheidegger and protected by intellectual property laws.
Your Content
- You retain rights to any content you add to shared screenshots.
- You grant us a limited license to process your App inputs (e.g., flag choice) to provide the service.
10. Third-Party Services
The App relies on Firebase Authentication, Firestore, and Cloud Functions (Google Cloud) to operate the chain. Service availability, performance, and data handling are also subject to these providers.
11. Disclaimers
The App is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, or reliability. Chain counts and positions may be temporarily unavailable or delayed during maintenance or provider outages.
12. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- Gamikaze Scheidegger shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
- Our total liability shall not exceed CHF 100 or the amount you paid for the App (if any) in the 12 months preceding the claim, whichever is lower
- We are not liable for any loss of data, revenue, or profits
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Gamikaze Scheidegger from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses arising from:
- Your use of the App
- Your violation of these Terms
- Your violation of any third-party rights
- Content you share using the App
14. Modifications to the Service
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue parts of the App at any time, and may update these Terms. We will provide reasonable notice of material changes through the App or our website.
15. Termination
By You
You may stop using the App at any time and request deletion of your data in Settings.
By Us
We may terminate or suspend your access to the App immediately, without prior notice, if:
- You breach these Terms
- You engage in fraudulent, abusive, or illegal activity
- We discontinue the service
Upon termination, your right to use the App ceases immediately.
16. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Switzerland. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Switzerland.
17. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
18. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Gamikaze Scheidegger regarding the use of The Human Chain Project.
